Our pain program has innovative products with broad utilities for both inflammatory and neuropathic pain. The products are potent inhibitors of a target that Xenon identified in rare individuals who are unable to perceive or understand pain, and by seletively inhibiting this target with our small molecule drugs we may be able to treat pain in a profound way for the general population. In Phase 1 clinical studies oral XEN402 was well tolerated
and reached plasma levels in human subjects beyond those predicted to be required for analgesic effects. A Phase 2a study with oral XEN402 in patients with inflammatory pain showed an efficacy signal that was consistently observed across the primary and all secondary endpoints. An additional oral XEN402 study for a congenital neuropathic pain indication is underway. XEN403, our back-up to oral XEN402 with improved pharmaceutic properties is currently in safety and GLP toxicology studies.
To expand the market potential of XEN402, we have initiated development of a topical product for the treatment of painful conditions such as post-herpetic neuralgia, diabetic neuropathy, sprains, strains, and potentially osteoarthritis.
Certain development and commercialization rights have been partnered to Takeda for Japan and other select Asian countries.
